This year’s Bricks by the Bay (BBTB) is fast approaching.  The fun begins in just over two weeks!  If you have not marked your calendar yet, the Convention begins August 3rd.  The Public Exhibition opens its doors on Sunday, August 6th

Preparations are in full swing.  Convention bags, t-shirts, pins have been ordered and we anticipate shortly our LEGO brick shipment for event kits, badge kits, and the Convention minifigs.  The event kit this year is an awesome brick-built map of the Golden State in honor of this year’s theme, “California Dreamin’.”

MOCs (attendee built LEGO creations) are being registered and there will be a fantastic array of stunning creations to wow Convention attendees and visitors.

Here’s a quick rundown on a few things for attendees ahead of the Convention.

If you are not a Convention attendee, we hope you will join us for the Public Exhibition and bring the whole family!

MOC Registration

If you are a Convention attendee and have not registered your MOC, we encourage you to get your builds registered.  Getting your MOCs registered helps us plan, so please visit the Convention website and register as soon as possible.

To make MOC registration easier for those who are bringing builds from last year, please note that we have transferred all registered MOCs from last year into the website MOC registration system.

Important >>> In connection with adding in all of last year's MOCs, we have de-selected the option for all MOCs indicating that the MOCs will be brought to the Convention this year.  This was done so that prior year MOCs would have to be affirmatively selected if they are being brought again this year.  But it also means that if you recently registered a MOC, it may have been deselected as well.  Bottomline—if you have any pre-existing or newly registered MOCs on the website, please log-in and double check that the ‘bringing it this year’ option is selected if you will be bringing the MOC this year. That option must be checked in order to have your MOC card printed and to be eligible to win any awards for the MOC. You can find the check box at the bottom of each MOCs individual registration page.

Volunteer Opportunity - Theme Coordinator

We are looking for a volunteer to serve as a Co-Theme Coordinator for Art.  In addition to the joy of helping out, Theme Coordinators also get great perks, including free basic registration and two free nights at the hotel.  If are interested please contact

If you are attending the Convention, we would like to encourage you to consider booking at least one night at the hotel, the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara.  Not only is it convenient to the Convention space, but staying at the hotel lets you be immersed in the action and not miss anything.  It also helps the Convention fulfill its hotel stay minimums which help us secure the best pricing for all attendees!  See the website for details:

Convention Attendee
Tip of the Week

A handy little gadget to remember to bring with you is a LEGO brick separator.  Keep one in your pocket, your backpack, your purse, or even tucked behind your ear.  Brick emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere, even during games and workshops.  Don’t get stranded without your trusty brick separator!

Workshops are selling out quick.  So if you were thinking about signing up for one, you might want to do that soon.  To add a workshop to an existing registration, go to your Account Summary page, click on the attendee's name, then click on the Add Workshop button.

We are excited to offer two sections of Li's Fonts and Lettering workshop. Li was recently recognized by the Brothers Brick for one of his outstanding fonts, a beautiful Gothic font with remarkable detail.  In this workshop, Li will cover approaches to making your own fonts and will step you through constructing the three different fonts (which he designed) that are part of the kit.

If you like ‘livin’ on the edge,’ you might want to sign up for the Welcome to the Dark Side workshop.  Drill, cut, saw, file, and chemically alter your bricks to create a captivating diorama for the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkey.  Safety equipment will be provided. Taught by accomplished artists/makers Kara, Robert, and Drew, this workshop is sure to be a unique experience.

BBTB is offering 10 different workshops this year.  Check them out on the website and remember that you can always get on a waiting list if the workshop you want is sold out.

See you soon!
